What is the RAF format?
RAF (Fujifilm RAW) is a Fujifilm camera RAW format. Its Fujifilm RAF container normally stores sensor data, camera metadata, and embedded previews.
ViewRawNow reads camera-written JPEG previews first. It loads local LibRaw WASM only when a suitable embedded preview is unavailable; it does not claim to develop every camera or compression variant.

Fujifilm RAF containers and embedded JPEGs
RAF is a Fujifilm container rather than a generic TIFF file. Its header records the offset and length of a camera-generated JPEG, which gives ViewRawNow a direct fast path for gallery and large-view previews.
Fujifilm's film simulation, white balance, sharpening, and other in-camera choices affect that JPEG. It can therefore look different from a later Lightroom or Capture One rendering of the RAF sensor data.
The real-camera regression baseline is a standard Fujifilm X-A1 RAF. Multi-shot and camera-specific variants are not implied by that test; files without a usable embedded JPEG depend on the local LibRaw fallback.
How ViewRawNow opens RAF files
- Find RAF files in the selected local folder and verify the Fujifilm RAF container.
- Inspect the JPEG offset and length stored in the RAF header for usable embedded images.
- Choose a preview near 1800 pixels for progressively rendered cards.
- Read the largest suitable preview only when the larger viewer opens.
- Use local LibRaw WASM only when no embedded preview can be used.
- Keep RAW bytes, filenames, paths, and EXIF data on the device.

Can I open RAF files online?
Yes. ViewRawNow opens RAF files from a local folder in your desktop browser. The review happens on your device rather than through a photo-upload service.
Are my RAF photos uploaded?
No. RAW data, previews, filenames, paths, and EXIF metadata remain in the browser. ViewRawNow has no RAW photo upload endpoint.
Can ViewRawNow edit or convert RAF files?
No. ViewRawNow is for previewing, sorting, inspecting, and selecting RAW photos. It does not adjust or convert sensor data.
Which Fujifilm cameras are tested?
The current real-camera regression baseline covers Fujifilm X-A1 with these samples: standard RAF at ISO 1000. Other models may work, but they are not claimed as verified.
Why can RAF previews fail?
A usable embedded JPEG may be missing or damaged, or the file may use a variant that the bundled LibRaw cannot decode. The fast path requires the RAF header to reference a browser-readable embedded JPEG; other RAF variants fall back to local LibRaw.
